John Repko, who was named Tyco’s global CIO in May 2012, will step into the new role when the merger closes.
Tyco International PLC’s chief information officer John Repko will stay on as CIO following the company’s merger with Johnson Controls, as the combined industrial firm looks to concentrate efforts on commercial-building systems, including smart-building technology.
The appointment was included in a joint regulatory filing last month, a Tyco spokesman confirmed Monday.
Mr. Repko, who was named Tyco’s global CIO in May 2012, will step into the new role when the merger closes, which is expected in October. He has over 14 years of experience as a senior IT manager, according to his executive profile on Tyco’s corporate website.
At Tyco, where his full job title is chief information officer and enterprise transformation leader, Mr. Repko is responsible for the company’s “information system strategy, systems and services,” the profile says.
Prior to Tyco, he was senior vice president and CIO for nine years at Covance Inc., the drug-development firm, starting in 2003.
He has also worked in senior IT and finance positions at GE Capital, and was a senior auditor and CPA at Ernst & Young Global Ltd.
Tyco and Johnson Controls agreed to merge in a $14 billion deal in January, with Johnson Controls shareholders expected to own 56% of the newly-formed company. The firm will maintain Tyco’s Irish legal domicile.
The move, which is expected to generate $30 billion in annual revenue, comes as many building management systems providers update business models to support multi-vendor Internet-of-Things platforms – in part under competitive pressure from a wave of smart-building startups, analysts say.
Tyco currently supplies security, fire and surveillance systems for buildings, while Johnson Controls offers heating, ventilation and air-conditioning tools.
“We are looking forward to bringing our complementary capabilities together to turn the possibilities for smart buildings and urban environments into reality,” Alex Molinaroli, Johnson Controls chairman and chief executive officers, said in a statement last month.
Mr. Repko has a bachelor’s degree in accounting from Villanova University and an MBA in IT Systems from Drexel University.
